Safety Tools Explained
Lines and Veils X-Card Pause/Break
Lines are topics or content that will not appear in the game at all. (Example: a player might say “no harm to children.”)
Veils are topics that may exist in the world but will fade to black or happen off-screen. (Example: romance may happen, but intimate details are veiled.)
This helps me understand what’s off-limits and what needs to be handled gently.
X-Card
At any point during play, if something makes you uncomfortable or crosses a boundary, you can say “X-Card” out loud or type it in chat. I’ll immediately stop and move the scene in another direction — no explanation required.
This is your emergency brake if something comes up in the moment.
Pause/Break
If the tension is running high, or something in the story brushes close to a personal topic, you can say “Pause” or “Break.” This signals that you need a quick reset. We’ll stop the scene, check in, and either rewind or take a short break.
Think of this as a softer safety tool than the X-Card, giving us a way to breathe if intensity runs too high.
Your Lines & Veils
Committed to Inclusivity
All are welcome at my table regardless of experience, skill level, sexual orientation, race, age and gender. I believe the more diverse the perspectives, the better the game. Failure to respect others will get you kicked, end of story.
If that bothers you, this is the wrong table for you.

Table Etiquette
-
Take your turn, but don’t hog the scene.
Step back sometimes to let others shine.
Notice when someone is quieter and invite them in (“What does your character think?”).
-
Celebrate cool moves, clutch rolls, and creative ideas.
Compliment other players’ roleplay moments.
Encourage each other’s backstory hooks and character quirks.
If it’s another players specialty, don’t roll.
-
Ask other characters questions in-character.
Build connections: give your character reasons to care about the group.
Look for ways to set up others for success — not just your own spotlight.
-
Listen actively; don’t talk over others.
Keep side chatter or phone distractions to a minimum.
Treat everyone at the table with kindness and inclusivity.
-
Embrace both successes and failures — they make the story richer.
Take risks that create drama and tension.
Remember: this isn’t just your story, it’s our story.
